New York City, New York Sep 17, 2024 (Issuewire.com) - A devoted neurologist, Dr. Correa is the research fellow for the Public Engagement Core of The Epilepsy Bioinformatics Study for Antiepileptogenic Therapy (EpiBioS4Rx). In this pivotal role, he collaborates with a diverse consortium of researchers, clinicians, patient organizations, patients, and caretakers to promote and enhance public involvement in future treatment trials aimed at improving therapies for epilepsy and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
In addition to his research role, he serves as the Deputy Chief of Neurology at Montefiore Medical Center, and is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. At Montefiore, he provides comprehensive care in inpatient general neurology, neurohospitalist, and epilepsy services. He also contributes his expertise as an epilepsy attending at NYC Health Hospitals, specifically at Jacobi Medical Center and North Central Bronx, where he supports the clinical neurophysiology lab.
His extensive background includes completing his neurology residency at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he later advanced to the rank of Major during his eight years of active duty in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. Throughout his military service, he received numerous decorations and awards for his dedication and contributions to military medicine.
Dr. Correa's military career includes key leadership roles, such as serving as Deputy Chief and later Chief of the Neuroscience & Rehabilitation Center at the Dwight Eisenhower Army Medical Center. There, he was instrumental in clinical education for medical students and residents and served on the Institutional Review Board, fostering a culture of neuroscience research.
His academic interests are centered on traumatic brain injury and the mechanisms of epileptogenesis in post-traumatic epilepsy. In 2019, he completed a Master of Science in Clinical Research Methods at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, under the mentorship of renowned experts Drs. Solomon L. Moshé and Nathalie Jetté. His current research aims to develop innovative solutions to overcome barriers in recruitment and implementation of neurological and epilepsy research.
Dr. Correa is also passionate about community outreach and has participated in missions to underserved regions, including the Ecuadorian Amazon, where he and his team provided neurological care to 115 patients. He plans to continue bridging the healthcare gap in underserved communities both locally and internationally.
